Maps are an essential tool for conveying information about natural resources, geologic hazards, and geologic history. One important role of the New Mexico Bureau of Geology & Mineral Resources (NMBGMR) is in the production and distribution of geologic and other types of maps.
The information presented in the three data documents represents basic data about the 1,965 mines and processing plants shown on the map. Included in each of the three documents is company name, site name, State, county, commodity, and whether the location is a mine, processing plant, or both for each of the locations shown on the map.
The following websites show publically available mine maps. These sites are in various stages of development and are continuously being updated. While attempts to geo-reference some of the available mine maps have been made, the accuracy of the mine workings depicted should be viewed as an approximation only.
